When summer months are on the horizon, more and more people start thinking about how they’re going to look in their swimsuit or shorts. After making sure that the swimwear from last year still fits, the next thing people think about is getting rid of unwanted hair. Part of this may include using laser hair removal.
Contrary to what many people think, laser hair removal is not designed to burn the hair off of your skin. In fact, it does not treat the shaft of hair that grows out of your skin. Instead, it is designed to address the hair follicles underneath your skin. This is why you can have laser hair removal treatments done even if you have shaved off all of the hair in the treated area.
During treatment, the energy of the laser targets the pigmentation in your hair follicles. The heat from the laser travels to the hair follicle, damaging it and preventing future growth. Laser hair removal is not designed to be a permanent hair removal treatment. It does offer long-term hair removal benefits, and it also offers permanent hair reduction benefits. Part of this means that after you have your series of treatments, it’s likely that over the course of the next few years some hair may grow back in the treated area. However, the hair that grows back will be thinner and lighter. There will be a lot less of it than what you had before.
Your hair grows in cycles. This means that there is going to be a large number of hair follicles that are not active when you go in for your first treatment. Laser hair removal treatments can only affect the hair follicles that are currently active. You will need to have multiple treatments with the goal of affecting all of your hair follicles when they are in their active phase.
If you have white, gray, or red hair, our professionals will need to make sure our laser device is able to target your follicles. Recent advancements in technology make laser hair removal a much more accessible treatment than in the past. We are able to treat individuals with dark skin, up to skin type VI.
