IPL® Photofacial in Colorado Springs

Springs Aesthetics offers IPL photofacials for men and women in Colorado Springs, South Denver, Castle Rock, Pueblo, and other areas of Colorado. The IPL photofacial uses a special light energy to correct pigmentation concerns, such as age spots and sun damage.

What is an IPL Photofacial?

The IPL photofacial uses an intense pulsed light energy source to break down damaged skin cells and stimulate cell turnover. Dr. Burroughs recommends the IPL photofacial for areas of hyperpigmentation or redness, such as what is seen with age spots, rosacea, and sun-damaged skin. The treatment works by affecting cells with excess pigment and breaking it down to be absorbed by the body. Our IPL photofacial also helps with spider veins on the face and broken capillaries, such as what is seen in rosacea patients.

How Much Does the IPL Photofacial Cost?

The cost of our IPL photofacial is based on the size of the treatment area, number of treatments in the series,  and the nature of the issue that is being addressed. After your consultation, we can provide more details about your cost. Springs Aesthetics works with CareCredit® and Alphaeon® to offer our patients with financing options for their IPL photofacial treatments and other services.

Before and After Pictures

What Are the Benefits of an IPL Photofacial?

Our IPL Photofacial helps with common cosmetic concerns, such as:

  • Redness
  • Sun damage
  • Uneven skin pigmentation
  • Broken capillaries and spider veins
  • Rosacea symptoms
  • Age spots and brown spots

Treatment areas are the face, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, neck and hands. We do not recommend the IPL® photofacial for individuals with deeply tanned skin or those with melasma.

What Areas Can Be Treated With IPL?

While the face is one of the most popular areas for treatment, other areas include: the décolleté, neck, hands, forearms, and lower legs.

Can IPL Treatments Improve Dry Eye?

Yes. Certain patients with severe dry eye from oil gland dysfunction (posterior blepharitis) can have significant improvement with eyelid treatments, which loosen and help the oil glands to work better. This issue is very common in patients with rosacea.  Typically treatments are done in a series of 3 done every 3-4 weeks then a maintenance treatment every 3-6 months as needed.  Dr. Burroughs was among the first in Colorado to provide this revolutionary treatment for dry eye patients.  Dr. Burroughs also has dry eye syndrome, and has benefited from IPL treatments himself.  They must be properly performed and appropriate eye shields must always be used directly on the ocular surface.

Can IPL Improve Bruising?

Yes. Post-surgical bruising can be rapidly improved with just 1 or 2 treatments speeding resolution about 3-4 times faster, and avoiding potential tattooing of the skin.  Bruise treatments are complimentary for cosmetic injection or surgical patients, and for a nominal fee if surgery was done fully under insurance.

How is an IPL Photofacial Performed?

The intense pulse light is administered using a special handpiece. Each burst of energy may feel like a small pinch or snap on your skin. The sensation is well-tolerated by most men and women, but if you do feel uneasy, please let us know. We may use a topical agent that numbs the area. We use a cooling tip that can dramatically improve the comfort of the treatment. The IPL photofacial can take up to 45 minutes.  Best results are obtained with a series of 3 treatments performed every 4 weeks.

What Should I Expect from IPL Photofacial Recovery?

Your skin will be red and slightly swollen after the treatment. You can return to your normal activities, but some patients prefer to go home and rest for the remainder of the day. You should not be in the sunlight for the first seven days.

How Long Will the Results of the IPL Photofacial Last?

We recommend that you have treatments every 12 months to maintain the results of your IPL photofacial following a series of 3 treatments performed monthly. You should limit the time that you spend in the sun to ensure that your skin does not develop new areas of hyperpigmentation.
