What is Radiesse®?

Radiesse® is a long acting filler that is best used for injections deep in the skin. It is used most commonly to add volume beneath the nasolabial folds. It should not be injected superficially in the skin, and it should not be used in the lips. It can be used very effectively in those who have generalized loss of volume in the face to add volume over the cheeks and even along the jaw line.

How Much Does Radiesse® Cost?

The average cost of Radiesse® filler injections varies, and the number of syringes is determined during your consultation. Springs Aesthetics works with CareCredit® and Alphaeon® as financing options for our patients.

How Does Radiesse® Help with Aged Hands?

As we age, our hands shows the signs of the years as well. Dark spots, thinning skin, prominent veins, and wrinkling can all occur and cause our hands to become unsightly. We tend to think about taking care of our faces, but often neglect the back of our hands—even when it comes to just applying sunscreen.

After the age of 40, most of us have lost volume in the skin tissues, causing the bony projections, tendons, and vessels to become more prominent. Often the skin becomes dry and crepe-papery further aging the appearance of the hands.

Radiesse® filler has been FDA approved and used for a few years to rejuvenate the back of the hands. Typically, five small boluses are injected into the dorsal aspect of the hands between the knuckles. Topical anesthetic can be applied, though the process is generally well tolerated by patients, especially if a cannula is used.

The filler is then massaged to even the dispersion and effect. One to two syringes per hand may be needed but the results are long lasting. Bruising can occur, but the risks are otherwise very minimal. Recently, others have started trying a hyaluronic acid filler (Restylane® Silk), which for some may have some advantage since it attracts water to hydrate and thicken the tissues.

For age spots (e.g., lentigines) intense pulsed light treatments can be done (such as Lumecca) to help even out the skin tones. Moisturizers are important, and SkinCeuticals® Triple Lipid is fantastic for this area. Topical hyaluronic acid boosters such as HA Intensifier can be very helpful as well.

Dr. Burroughs also has done chemical TCA peels for very severely sun-damaged skin on the back of the hands and lower arms. Dermalinfusion superficial peels provide microdermabrasion and helpful hydrating serums to thicken the skin for several days, which can be great if time is short and a big event is coming up that evening or on the weekend.

How is Radiesse® Performed?

Radiesse® is administered with a very fine needle. You may feel a slight prick on your skin followed by a localized pressure that is indicative of the gel entering the tissues.

What is Recovery Like After Radiesse®?

Radiesse® filler does not require downtime.

How Long Will Radiesse® Results Last?

Radiesse® injections can last between one to two years, but some patients find the best benefits with more frequent injections for re-volumizing their faces.
