The team at Springs Aesthetics in Colorado Springs, Colorado, offers myriad solutions for patients considering ways to enhance and rejuvenate their skin. With the help of Dr. John Burroughs and his team, men and women can address common imperfections that might make them feel self-conscious about how they look. One treatment we often recommend for rejuvenation is the PRP facial. Below are some frequently asked questions about the PRP facial treatment as it is performed at our practice.
Dr. Burroughs educates patients on the PRP facial treatment and how it can be used for aesthetics. The PRP facial is best described as a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that utilizes the natural power of your own blood cells to rejuvenate and restore your skin’s natural beauty.
Absolutely! Our PRP facial is considered safe as it uses your blood cells, meaning there is no risk of allergic reactions or rejection. However, as with any cosmetic procedure, it is vital that you consult with our trained and experienced medical professionals before undergoing treatment.
Vessel occlusions have been reported, but we use cannulas when injecting around the eyes. We have never seen a vascular occlusion or infection from PRP at Springs Aesthetics. Topically applied PRP is very safe, and even injected PRP is safe when performed with low volumes through a microneedle or by using a cannula for larger injection volumes and around the orbits (“eye sockets”).
A tiny portion of the patient’s blood is centrifuged during a PRP facial in order to isolate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from other substances. The concentrated PRP is then injected into the face, promoting collagen production and skin regeneration. The result is a smoother, more youthful look. PRP can also help optimize hair growth and hair loss from androgenic (male hormone) hair loss, which is the #1 cause of hairloss. PRP no longer has to be injected into the scalp, which was painful for most, to help with hairloss as there are good studies showing comparable results with comfortable (topical anesthetic used) scalp microneedling and topically applied PRP.
Anyone looking to improve their overall skin texture, tone, and elasticity can benefit from a PRP facial. It is also an excellent option for those seeking a natural alternative to more traditional anti-ageing treatments or fillers. However, it is essential to consult with our medical professionals to determine if the treatment is right based on your needs and medical history.
The PRP facial typically takes about 30-60 minutes to complete in the office. You may experience mild discomfort during injection, but it is usually well-tolerated. After the treatment, you may experience some redness and swelling, which typically resolves on its own within a day or two. Results will gradually improve in the weeks following treatment as collagen production increases.
As with any cosmetic treatment, minor side effects like mild bruising or tenderness at the injection site may occur but are temporary and resolve on their own. Using PRP from your own blood also reduces the risk of possible allergic reactions and infections.
