The Morpheus microneedling treatment is a popular service at Springs Aesthetics, and our team can educate patients on who is a proper candidate for this procedure. Below are some frequently asked questions that we often hear from our patients at our Colorado Springs, Colorado, area office.
Dr. John Burroughs describes the Morpheus laser microneedling treatment as a revolutionary approach to skin rejuvenation. It combines the benefits of both microneedling and radiofrequency (RF) energy to stimulate natural collagen production, resulting in smoother, tighter, and more youthful-looking skin.
No. Morpheus is a form of microneedling that is coupled with powerful radiofrequency energy. It is non-ablative and can be used on all skin types, whereas, even fractional laser treatments should be avoided in the darker skin types.
During the Morpheus microneedling treatment at our office, very small needles create microchannels on the skin’s surface while delivering RF energy deep into the dermis. This combination triggers the body’s natural healing response and promotes new collagen production, resulting in tighter and more rejuvenated skin.
Before beginning this treatment, a topical numbing cream is gently applied to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Once the numbing has taken effect, the Morpheus handpiece is passed over your skin, creating microchannels and delivering RF energy. More aggressive Morpheus treatments require sedation, nerve blocks, and most commonly tumescent infiltration of the treatment areas with dilute local anesthetic. Tumescent anesthesia lessens nerve risk injury, and allows for more aggressive skin tightening and fat contouring in the face. The entire treatment usually takes about 60-90 minutes.
It depends. Very light Morpheus treatments, performed with just topical anesthetic, can be mildly uncomfortable though it varies considerably from individual to individual. Any discomfort during the treatment is typically minimal and well-tolerated. Any time during a treatment, a powerful cooling air (Zimmer cooler) may be used, and we always have inhalable laughing gas for those who wish to further improve the comfort.
Most of our local patients describe the sensation as mild prickling or tingling. Aggressive Morpheus treatments definitely carry discomfort under just topical and we don’t recommend topical in these cases. Aggressive treatments are performed under light sedation with nerve blocks and tumescent local is injected into the tissues.
Morpheus laser microneedling is often used on various face, neck, and body areas that may benefit from skin rejuvenation. These include concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and uneven skin texture.
Yes, the Morpheus laser microneedling treatment is considered safe for all skin types. The RF energy used in the treatment does not target specific pigments like traditional lasers do, making it suitable for darker ethnic skin tones as well. The RF energy is delivered at the tip, not along the shaft, of the morpheus needles only while they are under the skin.
The number of skin treatments varies depending on each individual’s unique concerns and goals. However, most patients see the best results with three monthly treatments. Some, however, may show significant improvement after just a single session.
This varies from individual to individual, but the results begin to really show between 2-6 months after the treatment(s) and peak at about a year. Depending upon several variables, repeat maintenance annually to once every 18 months tends to preserve and maintain the results best.
The downtime is a few days for most. Some swelling and bruising may be present depending upon the power settings and outcome goals. Tiny micro scabs fall off the skin usually in 3-5 days. Many patients can work, workout and be active even the next day, but depending upon their own personally defined “social recovery” parameters they may not wish to be seen by others for 4-5 days. Texture irregularities can take a few weeks though rarely longer to improve, but these are generally fairly inconsequential or minimally noticeable to others.
Absolutely. We perform hybrid IPL and Laser with Morpheus. Oftentimes Morpheus is also performed simultaneously with surgery to optimize skin quality. We commonly perform topical PRP (platelet rich plasma) with microneedling and laser treatments.
Morpheus microneedling is newer technology than laser skin treatments, but Dr. Burroughs began performing the first generation (“Fractora”) of Morpheus in 2016, and adopted the current Morpheus platform in 2020. Dr. Burroughs was amongst the very first in the state of Colorado to offer this technology, and is very experienced. Dr. Burroughs and his team have treated previously “failed” Morpheus treatments performed elsewhere with good success. Because Dr. Burroughs is a facial specialist, he fine tunes the treatments for both safety and maximal effect for our patients.
