Learn more about microneedling for hair loss and restoration.
Are you tired of trying to combat hair loss and searching for the perfect solution? Well, good news is finally here for you! Microneedling might be the treatment you have been waiting for. This innovative, non-invasive treatment has been creating a buzz in the world of hair restoration, and for good reason. By using tiny, fine needles to stimulate your scalp, microneedling encourages hair growth in all the right places. But before you book your appointment, you probably have some questions for our team at Springs Aesthetics of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Let’s review some of the most frequently asked questions about microneedling for hair loss and restoration from Dr. John R. Burroughs.
How does microneedling treatment for hair loss and restoration work?
According to our team, microneedling is a procedure that includes making tiny punctures in the scalp with a device that contains tiny needles. This procedure promotes improved blood circulation and collagen synthesis, both of which support healthy hair follicles. Furthermore, topical medicines like minoxidil, serums, PRP, or exosomes can enter deeper thanks to these tiny holes, increasing their effectiveness.
Is microneedling a painful treatment?
Most of our patients report only a slight discomfort during the procedure. Topical anesthetic is utilized to maximize comfort and that good needle penetration is achieved. Think of it like a tingling or prickly sensation rather than outright pain. Dr. John R. Burroughs and or a delegated team member applies a numbing cream to keep you comfortable throughout the session.
How often should I schedule my microneedling treatments for hair loss?
Consistency is key to getting the results you desire. Generally, you will start with sessions about three to four weeks apart. However, the exact frequency depends on your specific needs and goals, which one of our specialists can help you determine.
When will I start seeing results from my treatment?
Patience is your best friend here! Results typically appear after a few months as your hair follicles respond to the treatment and enter a growth phase. It is a gradual process, but many of our patients report that it was well worth the wait!
Can I just do this myself at home?
There are dermal rollers you can buy yourself with fine pins on them that can puncture the skin. However, trying to do this with sterile technique, by yourself at home, will be limited without topical anesthetic and these dermal roller pins are of unequal quality and if you try to do this yourself, most won’t push the sharp needles firmly enough that an even or consistent depth is achieved. Springs Aesthetics has the FDA-approved Skinpen microneedling system. It can be precisely set to varying depths depending upon one’s skin thickness. The microneedle tips are used once only and then discarded for safety and sterility reasons. They are medical grade quality, so they will indeed penetrate into the skin at the depths set. Then the topical serums/PRP/Minoxidil can be applied, so penetration down to the hair bulges and hair bulbs is better accomplished than topical application without preceding microneedling.

Does microneedling for hair growth work?
There are good scientific studies showing microneedling alone and especially in combination with topical agents (Minoxidil, PRP) provides stimulation for hair growth to occur. It is most favorable for androgenic hair loss. It cannot make areas of complete alopecia (absence of hair follicles) grow new hair, but it can optimize the health of current follicles and help “fill in” areas where hair has become severely thinned. It is not permanent, but can be repeated on a periodic basis once the initial series of three have been performed.
