beforebeletoroHyaluronic acid fillers may be injected into the lower eyelids to rejuvenate their appearance. This patient was concerned with her dark hollows in the middle half of each of her lower eyelids as they blended into the nasal and cheek tissues. Filler may be safely and comfortably injected into these areas using a cannula technique. The filling provided smooths the eyelid transition with the cheek and nasal tissues to soften and rejuvenate their appearance. A filler blepharoplasty can last between 1-3 years in most patients. Belotero is a great choice for this area especially in patients with particulary thin skin because it tends to not cause the tyndall (blue color change) that can be seen with other fillers, and it is less hygroscopic (water attracting) so less chance that it will look too puffy, which Dr. Burroughs has had to treat with other filler products when placed in the lower eyelids. Restylane is another great choice for the lower eyelids, and can last longer than Belotero and though it doesn’t attract much water it can in some patients causing a bluish discoloration to the overlying skin if it is placed too superficially or if the skin is particularly thin.

Note the darkness of these areas.

Middle Picture: About a month after injection of the filler to smooth the lower

eyelid cheek junction. The tear troughs filled in nicely and the darkened areas of

the lower eyelids are remarkably improved.

Bottom Picture: One year later she still has improvement of the lower eyelids.
