What is IPL, and how is it different from other light-based treatments?
IPL is different from other light treatments (like lasers) because it uses a broad spectrum of multiple, scattered, and pulsing wavelengths of light. Treatments like lasers use a single, highly concentrated wavelength. IPL is generally applied to sun-damaged, pigmented, reddened, and scarred areas. The light in these areas is absorbed. Only the targeted skin is treated for a very precise and safe process.
What makes Lumecca different from other IPL treatments?
Lumecca is considered to be more powerful than traditional or older IPL systems. It has a higher “spot” size and narrower pulses than other IPL technologies. It also features built-in cooling. Can Lumecca IPL treat a lot of different skin concerns?
Since Lumecca is more powerful than many other IPL treatments, it has a high degree of versatility. It may be used to improve the appearance of signs of sun damage, such as “age spots” and freckles. Dark patches of melasma have to be approached very carefully with IPL, as it can sometimes worsen melasma pigmentation. In addition to resolving pigment problems, Lumecca IPL may be used to help with vascular lesions, such as spider veins. Its capabilities do not stop there. Because Lumecca IPL has the ability to boost collagen production, it can also soften superficial texture-related irregularities, such as acne scars. The collagen effectively “fills in” or smooths to lessen the appearance of depressed scars.
Does Lumecca IPL treatments hurt?
Very temporary and short-duration discomfort may occur in more sensitive individuals, but because of the highly effective cooling tip and the ability to perform brief breaks or slow treatment speed, most find IPL to be very well tolerated. Following treatments, generally, there may be some mild skin redness, but ongoing discomfort has not been an issue.
