As we age, our hands shows the signs of the years as well. Dark spots, thinning skin, prominent veins, and wrinkling can all occur and cause our hands to become unsightly. We tend to think about taking care of our faces, but often neglect the back of our hands even when it comes to just applying sunscreen. When we meet and greet others the engagement of the face is first followed by a handshake or hug.

Do Your Hands Give You Away?

After the age of 40, most of us have lost volume in the skin tissues causing the bony projections, tendons, and vessels to become more prominent. Often the skin becomes dry and creepy further aging the appearance of the hands.

What Product is Used to Rejuvenate My Hands?

Radiesse has been FDA approved and used for a few years to rejuvenate the back of the hands. Typically, five small boluses are injected into the dorsal aspect of the hands between the knuckles. Topical anesthetic can be applied though it’s really not very uncomfortable especially if a cannula is used. The filler is then massaged to even the dispersion and effect.

Restylane Lyft  is also FDA approved for use in the hands.  It will provide similar improvements, but carries a lower risk of potential nodules, and can be reversed or “filler sculpted” with enzyme if necessary.  At 12 months, 76% of patients on RealSelf still noted an improved difference.

Before and After Pictures

What Can I Expect Form Rejuvenating My Hands?

One to two syringes per hand may be needed but the results are long lasting. Bruising can occur, but the risks are otherwise very minimal. Dr. Burroughs and his team utilize a cannula to lessen bruising and intravascular injection risks.

Are There Other Treatments to Rejuvenate My Hands?

For age spots (e.g., lentigines) intense pulse light treatments can be done (e.g. Lumecca) to help even out the skin tones. Moisturizers are important, and SkinCeuticals triple lipid is fantastic for this area. Topical hyaluronic acid boosters such as HA intensifier can also be very helpful as well.

Dr. Burroughs also has done chemical TCA peels for very severely sun-damaged skin on the back of the hands and lower arms. Dermal infusion superficial peels provide microdermabrasion and helpful hydrating serums to thicken the skin for several days, which can be great if time is short and a big event is coming up that evening or on the weekend.

Springs Aesthetics also has a unique fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing device that is quickly and easily performed even without topical anesthetic in most patients.  This can tighten the skin and improve uneven pigment.  These laser treatments are done once a month for 3 months.  Touchups can be scheduled on an as needed basis, but with proper skin care and sun protection can last a long time.

How Much Does Hand Rejuvenation Cost?

The cost range of filler hand rejuvenation varies by treatment. We are best able to provide an accurate cost at the time of the consultation once Dr. Burroughs determines the types and volume of dermal fillers that are needed to create the results that you desire and any other treatments that will complement the filler results. Springs Aesthetics offers financing options to our patients through CareCredit® and Alphaeon®, and you can apply before the consultation.
