Facial expressions can leave their mark on your face. Every time you smile or frown, express worry or joy, the skin folds and creases. As elasticity and firmness are lost over time, creases can be visible on your face even when you are not making an expression. When those creases are between your eyebrows, you may look angry, worried, and tired even when you are perfectly content and refreshed.
Plastic surgeon Dr. John Burroughs and certified nurse injector, Melissa, can improve the appearance of these wrinkles, known as “frown lines,” with Botox®. Patients in and around Colorado Springs, Colorado, trust Springs Aesthetics because they know their results from Botox® will look natural, and their treatment will be performed to the highest standards of safety. As a plastic surgery practice, our considerable skill and experience (30 years) inspire utmost confidence.
Frown lines are the vertical furrows that form between the eyebrows. The medical term is glabellar lines, because they appear in the glabella area, that bit of skin between the brows and nose. Frown lines are a common cosmetic concern due to how the glabella area tends to become very wrinkled from specific and repeated facial movements. These movements include – you guessed it – frowning. Really, any time you furrow or knit your eyebrows together, you can create the indentations in the skin that may eventually lead to static frown lines. If you hear someone refer to “11 lines,” this is the same thing as frown lines. They get this nickname from their resemblance to the No. 11.
Botox® works by relaxing the muscles that are engaged when you frown, concentrate, worry, and otherwise express yourself with your face. A muscle that does not engage cannot fold or crease the overlying skin. Your skin stays smooth, and frown lines are softened.
Absolutely not. Botox® for frown lines is injected into specific muscles in the glabellar area. However, it may also be injected into other parts of the face. These areas include the frontalis muscle, which covers the forehead. Repeated muscle activity in this area can cause forehead lines. These are the horizontal creases that form across the forehead. Botox® has also been approved for use in the muscles around the eyes. When safely injected into these muscles, we can soften the appearance of those wispy “crow’s feet” that extend outward from the eyes. Botox® can also gently lift the brows.
Every treatment starts with a consultation. During this appointment, the condition of your skin and your specific concerns are evaluated. Very “etched-in” static frown lines may benefit from an array of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures at Springs Aesthetics. It is also important to understand that there are limitations to even the most advanced nonsurgical procedures. By partnering with us, you also benefit from the expertise of a skilled oculofacial plastic surgeon, Dr. Burroughs. When nonsurgical treatments stop working, or you may be a candidate for other alternatives, Dr. Burroughs can explore the most suitable options with you.
