Performing cosmetic surgeries safely is critical to ensuring the best possible results. Certain techniques are becoming a thing of the past due to improvements in medical technologies. At Springs Aesthetics of Colorado Springs, Colorado, we are excited to offer an array of cosmetic surgeries for the face while focusing on less invasive alternatives and techniques that can make treatments faster, give surgeries more natural-looking results, and reduce scarring. One treatment often requested is the brow lift, which can be done endoscopically with Dr. John R. Burroughs. Let’s discuss some frequently asked questions about our clinic’s endoscopic brow lift procedure.
This technique involves making tiny incisions and using a rigid endoscope camera to raise the forehead. It can be used to lift the entire forehead or just the lateral brows to improve brow contours (angles), minimize brow ptosis, and minimize crow’s feet and folds. It heals quickly and requires only minor incisions. It can be performed in the office, and according to Dr. Burroughs, it doesn’t require general anesthesia, though most people prefer mild IV sedation.
Dr. Burroughs of Springs Aesthetics offers endoscopic brow lifts. He describes this cosmetic eye surgery as a treatment tailored to specific facial structures to give the patient a refreshed and youthful appearance. The procedure entails making tiny incisions behind the hairline, using an endoscope—a small tube with a camera attached—to visualize the forehead structures while lifting and realigning the brow’s tissues and muscles.
The endoscope is not required to perform an endo-style brow or forehead lift. The same incisions can be utilized, and the dissection can be performed safely without an endoscopic camera. Over the last 30 years, most experienced surgeons who originally used the endoscope during these surgeries began to use them for only certain parts of the surgery, and many not at all. There are important nerve structures, but their locations are well known, and they could be injured even when an endoscope is utilized. Fortunately, however, the motor nerves are rarely injured, usually only temporarily. The sensory nerves are often not even released anymore; if they are, they can be done so in a manner that leaves them almost uniformly unharmed permanently. The sensory nerves are sometimes mildly and temporarily injured by stretching of the tissues during dissection, whether or not the endoscope was utilized.
The benefits of the endoscopic brow lift include minimal scarring, less downtime, and faster recovery compared to traditional brow lifts. This is because fewer (smaller) incisions are made during the procedure, generally behind the hairline and well hidden as they heal. Additionally, since the endoscopic technique and similar “endo-style” approaches allow for more precise movements, it can result in a more natural-looking outcome.
Endoscopic brow lifts are typically recommended for individuals with sagging brows or forehead wrinkles caused by aging or genetics. They can also effectively treat those with asymmetrical brows or droopy eyelids. However, it is best to consult with a qualified surgeon like Dr. Burroughs to determine if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure.
After undergoing an endoscopic brow lift, patients can typically return to regular non-strenuous activities within a few days and resume strenuous activities after approximately one week. Mild swelling and possible bruising may occur but will subside within a few weeks. Our team advises patients to avoid direct sunlight and to wear sunscreen to protect the delicate skin on their forehead.
Dr. Burroughs cares not only about lifting the brow tissues when this can provide a cosmetic improvement to the eyes but also in shaping the brows. Brow sizes and shapes come in a tremendous variety, but generally, men want to maintain flatter and closer to the eyes brow positions while females enjoy higher and more arched brows. Forehead and brow lifting surgery should be designed with this in mind, and improvements in height, shape, spacing, and shape are features that can be targeted with endoscopic forehead or brow lift procedures.
Dr. John R. Burroughs believes in offering myriad solutions for adult men and women to enhance their appearance.
