Dr. John R. Burroughs of Springs Aesthetics, one of the premier full-service medical spas in Colorado Springs, is proud to announce that RFAL treatments are now being offered to help clients achieve their goals of a healthier, more youthful appearance. Radio Frequency Assisted Lipolysis (RFAL) is a new FDA-approved procedure that is an improvement over older liposuction methods of removing unwanted fat because of the excellent skin tightening it provides. RFAL is a versatile procedure that reduces fat and improves skin laxity in multiple body areas and is known in the United States as BodyTite and FaceTite.
RFAL is the sole procedure that combines the elements of melting fat and tightening skin into a single process. Traditional liposuction can leave large areas of unwanted lax skin that often can give a “flabby” appearance with undesired skin folds. RFAL tightens the skin mostly over the first 3-4 months after treatment with improvement gains up to 12 months. The results, however, last for several years. This innovative technology uses radio frequency energy that is deployed from an internal cannula to an external electrode, which focuses energy into the adipose tissue. This procedure can be performed in the office under local tumescent anesthesia. It is minimally invasive as the treatment probe can be inserted though relatively small needle ports. Discomfort and potential side effects are minimized by the speed of the RFAL treatment, which is up to four times faster than traditional liposuction techniques, and by the fact that there are precise temperature sensors within the hardware that will shut down the generated energy as soon as the desired temperature is reached, which greatly reduces the risk of any burns.
RFAL has been proven to be highly effective on multiple parts of the body, such as the face, neck, arms, breasts, and abdomen. Dr. Burroughs has been using RFAL as an adjunct to his facelift procedures for patients with “fatty” jowls that need reducing in addition to being elevated as well as for neck work to be done simultaneously with a facelift to reduce neck area fat and to help tighten the neck skin with no additional incisions beyond the facelift incisions. RFAL can be done also as a non-surgical option for face and neck lifting. In the right patients the results can nearly approximate those undergoing incisional face and neck lifting, and will last about 3-4 years and possibly longer in certain skin types. For very large and thick fatty areas, traditional liposuction is still needed, but the results are then improved by performing the RFAL at the completion of the liposuction to gain the skin tightening benefits. RFAL is also safe and effective in areas that aren’t fatty, but need to be tightened or lifted. Dr. Burroughs has also been using it for fluid accumulation areas of the upper cheeks called festoons. Because of the minimal downtime and quick results, RFAL is becoming one of Dr. Burroughs most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments at Springs Aesthetics.
Dr. John R. Burroughs, the Medical Director of Springs Aesthetics, notes, “I’m excited to now offer my patients the proven benefits of RFAL treatments, which has been used in Canada and Europe for many years. RFAL works extremely quickly to remove unwanted fat, but it also tightens the skin at the same time to improve appearance. This procedure is tremendous for body re-contouring by reducing laxity and tightening up the skin. One of the best features of RFAL is that it works on many different problem areas, such as tightening up loose skin in the arms and other small areas such as the jaw and neck and smoothing out the appearance of cellulite. Skin is left a lot smoother and toned after a RFAL treatment as the procedure can cause soft tissue contraction by up to a full forty percent. The innovative nature of the RFAL treatment and its speed means that there is a marked reduction in discomfort and post-procedural swelling for the patient. BodyTite and FaceTite are a major step forward in the fight against unwanted fat and skin sagging that never seems to go away from those pesky trouble areas.”
