Dr. John Burroughs is an oculofacial plastic surgeon practicing in Colorado Springs, CO. One of his most popular surgeries is the “mini-facelift.” This surgery is popular because the downtime and surgical discomfort is very minimal. Most patients are up and about within a day or so, and depending upon their hair style, the stitches may not be noticeable to anyone. Bruising for most patients is almost non-existent, but if dermal fillers are placed this can cause some more visible bruising. Besides the quick recovery, the surgery for the right candidates can provide a wonderful result with minimal risk. This type of facelift is best for patients that have prominent jowls and neck sagging. Patients with prominent neck fat won’t see much improvement unless this is addressed separately. This facelift provides a nice and natural appearing result, and avoids many of the complications with other forms of facelifting that can include: nerve injury; facial paralysis; prolonged numbness; and prolonged healing/swelling. Many of Dr. Burroughs patients want to be back to work within a few days and this is entirely possible and the norm for this approach. Dr. Burroughs aims to preserve the patients ear contour and lobule so as to avoid a “pixie-ear” deformity that is a noticeable and unwanted appearance following some facelifts.
This patient wanted to improve her jawline but repositioning the jowls and also have her sagging neck skin pulled upward. This was all done through a relatively small incision in front of the ears that wraps just posteriorly to the ear lobule. She also received some Radiesse dermal filler and has been extremely pleased with her results. Most of Dr. Burroughs’ facelift patients come from his prior facelift patients. He does advise against the “mini-facelift” procedure if neck fat is the main complaint or if the tissues are too heavy and thick to improve by the mini-lift technique. The surgery can last upwards of 7 years, and some of his patients have been pleased as far out as 9 years following their surgery. Mini-facelifts can be repeated as needed, and Dr. Burroughs advises patients to seek a natural result over one that will leave them “too tight” appearing just to have it last longer. Dr. Burroughs’ most watched surgery video on his youtube channel is the mini-facelift. Shown below is one of his patients and their before and after results.
