Springs Aesthetics offers dermaplaning for men and women in Colorado Springs, South Denver, Castle Rock and other areas of Colorado. Our dermaplaning facial exfoliates the skin and may help with superficial flaws.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a superficial skin care treatment that exfoliates and removes dead skin cells and vellus hair (“peach fuzz”). A dermaplaning facial is not like shaving, and it is painless. The procedure is performed by a medical professional who uses a sterile dermaplane facial blade.
How Much Does Dermaplaning Cost?
During the consultation, our aestheticians will examine your skin to determine if a dermaplaning facial is the best option. At that time, we can let you know how much it will cost. Financing may be available through CareCredit® and Alphaeon®.
Can a Dermaplane Facial Be Combined with Other Treatments?
Dermaplaning can be performed as a stand-alone procedure; however, after dermaplaning, skin care products and treatments perform better since they can penetrate the skin easier, making it a perfect complement to a series of treatments like our chemical peels, dermalinfusion, and microneedling.
Dermaplaning creates an opportunity for deeper product penetration which boosts the effects of skin care products and treatments, so it is often accompanied with a facial and special growth serums. These serums include vitamin A and C, which work synergistically to address multiple problematic skin symptoms at once and to help maintain your results. When a dermaplane facial is combined with glycolic or other chemical peel solutions, better results may be achieved.
People who suffer from pustular acne or have excess oil should not have dermaplaning performed. If the hair is removed from the area, the oils may cause bacteria growth, which could lead to acne breakouts.
How is Dermaplaning Performed?
Dermaplaning is a quick procedure, typically lasting 20 to 30 minutes. It is painless, provides immediate results, and doesn’t require any anesthetic. The dermaplane blade is placed at a 45-degree angle on the skin and is brushed back and forth over the facial skin. The blade is used on the clean, dry skin of the forehead, cheeks, chin, nose, and neck. Removal of the vellus hair is beneficial, as they trap oils and debris leading to a dull skin appearance.
How Often Should I Have a Dermaplaning Facial?
Dermaplaning is usually performed every four weeks. It is good to have the skin complete its normal rejuvenation cycle (30 days) before going back and having the treatment done. The procedure generally removes between two to three weeks of dead skin from the facial area.
What is the Recovery Like After Dermaplaning?
There is no downtime and makeup can be applied directly after the procedure and will actually go on smoother. Skin care products will also be more effective, as the product can penetrate faster since it isn’t being blocked by dead skin cells.
Post-dermaplaning skin is especially susceptible to the sun, so you will need to be very diligent about applying a good sunscreen. There is no need to worry about the hair on your face getting any darker, since dermaplaning only targets vellus hair, which will grow back the same size and color.
How Long Will Dermaplaning Results Last?
One aging problem is that your body exfoliates less and less. This results in a buildup of dead skin cells, requiring that you either remove those skin cells yourself or use a mechanical device to help remove the dead cells for you. A dermaplane facial removes the excess skin, stimulating new epidermal growth and creating more growth factors that boost collagen production for plumper skin.
You can expect to see an instant improvement in skin texture and tone, while the long-term effects are increased cell turnover, reduction in fine lines and dark spots, acne scarring, and the removal of fine facial hair. The dermaplaning facial leaves the skin brighter, smoother, glowing, and more youthful.
