Few conditions are as common or as emotionally taxing as acne. Fortunately, Dr. John Burroughs and our team at Springs Aesthetics have the services, capabilities, and knowledge to put this often challenging and traumatic skin condition behind you. The services available at our office in Colorado Springs also resolve stubborn signs of past acne breakouts, such as scars. When we intervene early enough, acne does not have a chance to leave behind these painful and haunting reminders. Complications are avoided with effective treatments tailored to your specific needs, including the particular type of acne that may be present.
Some specific products or interventions may be considered “first-line” treatment options for blemishes. You have likely tried them – products marketed as skin care for the acne-prone or items formulated specifically for acne. When these products do not work, we may recommend our medical-grade treatments. Dr. Burroughs may prescribe medications to treat acne at its source(s): reducing oil production, killing harmful bacteria, and speeding up the growth of new skin cells. If these interventions do not result in an improvement or are associated with minimal improvement in the frequency or severity of acne flares, we may discuss complementing these products with in-house services or therapies. Or, we may recommend on-site services as an alternative to these products and medications.
The specific ways these professional methods work vary by the type of service performed. In general, resurfacing treatments address many skin concerns at our practice, including acne. Our skin is constantly regenerating new skin cells. The dead and damaged ones fall away as these fresh skin cells are brought to the surface. We can trigger or jumpstart this process with services like chemical peels. Some resurfacing procedures, such as laser-assisted resurfacing, also trigger the production of fresh collagen to reduce sebum production, destroy pimple-causing bacteria, encourage healing, and soften the appearance of certain types of acne scars. Radio-frequency microneedling can be performed with many forms of active acne and can help reduce the outbreak and reduce scarring. Blue wavelength LED and Intense-Pulse Light (IPL) therapies are non-invasive and can help reduce active acne outbreaks.
Depending on your needs and how your skin has responded to other products and services, we may recommend the HydraFacial treatment. This “twist” on the standard facial service packs a powerful punch; we can balance, soothe, and nourish inflamed skin by cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing. The dermal infusion silk peel is also a great way to unclog the pores responsible for acne and improve the appearance and frequency of breakouts. Lastly, the microneedling technique may be used alone or in conjunction with other energy-based technologies (such as radiofrequency as the Morpheus8 or Pixel8 systems) to heal the skin from deep within. These latter services encourage the formation of fresh collagen, elastin, and tissue.
